While natural remedies of all kinds are becoming increasingly popular both with individuals and medical professionals alike, cranberries are still one of the most overlooked and underestimated natural remedies.
There are a number of varieties of cranberries that may vary in color and harvesting time, but all of which grow on evergreen type shrubs and are good as natural remedies. Cranberries for natural cures can be found in your local supermarket or online stores frozen, fresh, concentrated, as juices and now even in pills or capsule form. In comparison to incredibly expensive and dangerous prescription drugs cranberries are clearly a safe and cheaper alternative. Though of course as with anything, moderation is common sense and there should be no need to consume more than the equivalent of a seven ounce glasses of cranberry juice per day. However if you are going to opt for taking your cranberries in juice form make sure to stay away from cocktail type blends and those than are not real pure cranberry juice to avoid unwanted sugar and make sure you are actually getting enough actual cranberries.
There are a number of health problems that cranberries can be used as a natural remedy to fight and prevent, though the most popular is for treating urinary tract infections (UTIs). Cranberries have been known to both destroy and inhibit bacteria from growing. As a natural remedy for UTIs cranberries it not only attacks the underlying cause but can relieve painful symptoms.
Cranberries have also been shown to lower bad cholesterol and increase good cholesterol which improves the overall function of the body and organs as well as blood flow, offering many health benefits. Additionally cranberry juice has been shown to reduce risk of osteoporosis due to high calcium content. It is also used as a natural remedy and preventative measure against stones, stomach diseases and ulcers and can help the body better absorb other vitamins. Though perhaps the most valuable use for cranberries is their use for battling asthma attacks due to the fact they contain similar active ingredients to those in asthma medication.
