How about Cherries?

How about Cherries?

What have you tasted that's fabulous lately?  How about cherries? They're a welcome addition to the farmers markets and are bursting with sweet flavor!  Loaded with antioxidants such as anthocyanins that give them their vibrant red color, studies suggest they possess anti-aging and anti-inflammatory properties.  Plus, their high concentration of potassium may help decrease high blood pressure and hypertension. With only 82 calories per 1-cup serving, they make a delicious, healthful snack or post-meal dessert.

Of course they are incredible eaten all by themselves, but with a little patience, you could slice them open, remove the pits and toss them into a salad of couscous or quinoa with a bit of feta cheese and fresh basil to balance their sweet tang.  The peak of the season runs through June, so grab a handful and enjoy!
