The Sweetest Day is celebrated every third Saturday of October in northeast America and Great Lakes. This 2010, the third Saturday of October falls on the 16th of October, thus, this is the reason why the 16th of October is called the Sweetest Day. Why the 16th of October Is Called the Sweetest Day started about sixty years ago in Cleveland. This was started in 1922 by an employee of a candy manufacturing firm, Herbert Birch Kingston. He thought of remembering the less fortunate such as the poor, orphans, newsboys and the elderly. He thought of giving them presents so they could feel that they are not left out in this world. From then on, the day was called the Sweetest Day and many neighbors have followed since then, bringing it to other states as well as they migrate to new places. Hence, it all started why the 16th of October is called the Sweetest Day. Another factor why the 16th of October is called the Sweetest Day was said to be concocted by candy manufacturers to boost their candy sales. They had hoped that this would be widely accepted and celebrated just like Mother?s Day and Valentine?s Day. The Sweetest Day, which is always held every 3rd Saturday of October now falls on October 16, 2010, hence, the reason why the 16th of October is called the Sweetest Day. Nowadays, Sweetest Day is not only celebrated to remember the less fortunate but it also gives the opportunity to give thanks and remember every people who have done good things to us. It includes giving small gifts like a box of candy and chocolates, cards and flowers to family and friends we want to thank for the kindness extended to us all throughout the year. Remembering our love ones through tangible actions of giving even just a small gift would further improve the relationship each one of the members of the family and friends enjoy at the moment. Just like any occasion, the Sweetest Day could be celebrated in any manner that would touch the lives of others. You could go to an orphanage and celebrate this holiday with these less fortunate ones. Or you could go to a home for the aged and visit the elderly who does not have a family that visit often.
